CLEAR LIGHT ASTROLOGY

Winter Solstice: June 2018

Embrace the Solstice

Just as the Equinox refers to when the Earth's axis is balanced, which gives as an equal amount of light and dark at two points in the year (Autumn and Spring), the Solstice is when the axial tilt of the Earth is at the farthest point away from the Sun. Depending on which hemisphere you live in at that time, this is the start of Winter or Summer. This too happens twice a year.
The Winter Solstice will occur on the 21st June 2018 at approximately 8:06pm in AusEST.

Solstices will always occur on either 20th or 21st June, and 21st or 22nd December each year.
Being in the Southern Hemisphere, we are about to embrace Winter. This will usher in the signs of Cancer (which the Sun will travel “through” on the day of the Solstice), then Leo and Virgo.  The Winter Solstice will bring us our ‘shortest day’ of the year, as night will dominate that day.

A lot of people aren’t particularly fond of cold weather and not having a lot of sunlight. This shouldn’t be a reason not to celebrate though! Going out to embrace the fresh cool air and feeling a different vibe to the wilderness is a refreshing and healing prospect. New plant formations are happening, so this is an incredible time to enjoy Mother Nature’s work.

Because this Solstice is bringing in our Winter season, and that refers to us putting on multiple layers and being shrouded in darkness, this can be a brilliant time for searching underneath all of our mental and emotional layers to bring out any suppressed things that we have not wanted to deal with. Writing down things that we are wanting to overcome and move on from is a way of healthily expressing this, and to make it ritualistic, you can burn that in a bonfire or over a single candle flame.

This symbolic ceremony can help you visualise ridding of the things you have been wanting to release, as well as getting to watch the beautiful dance of the glowing flames. Bonfires in particular are a beautiful spectacle to observe, as the warmth from the hearth goes straight to the heart, and can be a reminder that even in our darkest times (quite literally) that there will always be a light if we remember that we have a choice to make one at any time.
Embrace this cold weather and just remember that it is a necessary part of this cycle of Life.
